Hand Strength
Before we talk about hand strengths, we have to talk about implied odds. Implied odds - The method used to effectively measure how much it costs to keep playing the hand vs. the amount we stand to win if we make a strong hand. We figure out our odds of winning the round and how much of the pot we own to see if we have good implied odds to play.
Moving on to Hand Strength. There are three categories, Good Pair Potential, Versatility, and Nut Potential.
Good Pair Potential
This category is about making the best pairs. Although pairs are at the bottom of the list in winning hands, they are rather frequent when playing. This is because as you go up the hands, they get rarer. This is why having good pair potential matter so much when we are ranking hand strength.
Versatility
This category is about the pair that has the potential to make the most hands. These are the kinds of hands that have a lot of outs giving us a higher chance to hit our draws and win more frequently.
Nut Potential
This category is about the chance to make some crazy good hands like a Royal Flush or Straight Flush. These hands are so incredibly rare, and almost always, even with a good starting hand, you won't be able to make these hands. Even then, this is taken into account when determining hand strength on the off chance that you do get the best hand.
